GUIDO Music Notation Language

Ein weiteres Format ist GUIDO . Wer will, kann online ausprobieren , wie das GUIDO-Format in eine Notengraphik umgeandelt wird.

Wesentliche Designkriterien sind die Verwendung eines ascii-Formats und die Erweiterbarkeit. Die Weise, in der die einzelnen Elemente notiert sind, erinnert an TeX.

GUIDO ist in drei Stufen geplant:

• Basic GUIDO ist definiert und stabil. Es umfaßt die einfachsten Notationselemente, geht dabei aber schon weit über MIDI hinaus.
• Advanced GUIDO (inofficial draft) ist unvollendet. Hier werden weitere Symbolklassen definiert, die allgemein in der Musiknotation Verwendung finden.
• Extended GUIDO ist für die eher ungewöhnlichen Zwecke wie mikrotonale Musik geplant.

Die drei Stufen bauen aufeinander auf, d.h. Basic GUIDO ist Teilmenge von Advanced GUIDO welches wieder Teilmenge von Extended GUIDO ist.

Damit das Format Verbreitung findet, sind Libraries in C und Java geplant.
